African Dance Workshop with Joana Peres

A body that opens up to the origins of life,
the symbolism of gesture,
the hypnosis of rhythm,
the impermanence of time,
the circumstances of a place.

This laboratory is an invitation to research and get closer to the vocabulary of West African ancestral dances.

Joana Peres is a dancer, choreographer and researcher in African dances.
She graduated in Fine Arts - Painting from FBAUP in 2002.
Since 2001 she has been working with dances from the West African coast, undertaking eight training trips and artistic residencies in Guinea Conakry, Senegal and Cape Verde, alongside dancers from Les Ballets Africains, Ballets Matam, Ballets Sabougnouma (Guinea), Jalikunda (Senegal) and Raiz Di Polon (Cape Verde).
Choreographer and artistic director of Allatantou Dance, founded by Abdoulaye Camara, 2006; Choreographer and performer of Mon na Mon, African Ballet, since 2016. For the last 17 years she has been developing her method: MAE_Movement of African Expression, this research laboratory has traveled to Brazil, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy, Spain, England, Guinea Conakry and Cape Verde.
