HEDERA Volume I

Residence:: Balletto Lucano

The Compagnia del Balletto Lucano is holding an artistic residency from 18 to 20 September and on the 19th, it will present the result of this work at the Coliseu Porto Ageas - Salão Ático: HEDERA Volume I, a project that combines dance, memory and territory.

HEDERA Volume I
The idea behind this experimental project is to use dance as a tool for researching and rediscovering the cultural heritage of their land.
The dancers of the company from the Lucania region immersed themselves in some of the places where they grew up, whether the narrow streets of a historic centre, an abandoned village or the ruins of an ancient Greek temple. Their perception and interpretation of the locations initially gave rise to an improvised dance performance, captured in video documentaries by Lucanian director Angelo Chiacchio, and later to a live show combining video projections and choreography on stage.
The project aims to use Lucanian cultural heritage as raw material for artistic creation. The locations were chosen for their symbolic power, for their ability to represent the richness and diversity of Basilicata. In addition, the project aims to enhance the personal and professional growth of dancers born and trained in Basilicata and now active on the Italian and international scene. The performers use their artistic maturity to rediscover and recount their land, their history and, ultimately, themselves.

HEDERA has already been presented at various international dance and film festivals, winning an award for Best Dance Film at the Madrid International Short Film Festival 2024 (Spain) and featuring in the official selection of the Tokyo International Short Film Festival (Japan), New York Tri-State International Film Festival (USA), Inspired Dance Film Festival (Australia) and Exeter Dance International Film Festival (UK).
